What is CASEL?

Capitol Area Science Education Leaders (CASEL) was born in 1998 and launched with a one day conference at the Hilton Hotel in Sacramento on Science Standards. Other professional development events have followed that have targeted further standards implementation. CASEL targets any teachers, school, district or county in the northern California, greater (very greater!) Sacramento area.

CASEL is designed to provide information and professional development to forward science education Pre-K-14 in northern California. It is not a California Science Teachers Association affiliate, but serves to support the mission of CSTA and all science education professional development organizations such as the California Science Project, the K-12 Alliance for Math & Science, area county offices of education and districts in the targeted area.

With all the education initiatives currently going on, it seemed appropriate that northern California schools get the latest info and opportunities to improve science education. Many districts in northern California are small with no science curriculum specialist and few county offices in northern California have science curriculum support personnel whose major responsibility is science.

Who is a Member of CASEL?

YOU ARE! There is not formal membership nor membership dues. As a participant in CASEL events, you are put on the database, which is housed a the San Joaquin County Office of Education, Office of Science & Special Projects and you will be sent information about upcoming events.

Want to be a CASEL Leader?

Events do not happen on their own. CASEL needs interested area science teachers, administrators and community partners to help plan and deliver events. WE NEED YOU! Please email pgardner@sjcoe.net should you wish to assist with events and become part of this leadership group.
