School Presentation Hints

Orchestrating Star Lab at your school can be a daunting task.  We have provided you with some hints that will hopefully help make the process smoother.  It is suggested that if you are the only person doing the lab that you have a substitute for a week or trade with the teachers whose classes will be using the lab. There are also links for you to refresh your memory on how to use the digital lab.

Other hints that are applicable to all domes and may be helpful:

-Don’t overwhelm yourself the first time out.  Do the same lesson/ story for all classes. Build your repertoire slowly.
-Younger students grades K-2 cannot take much technical information. They will be more interested in the stories of the constellations rather than what the are called.
Suggested times :
K-2                  10-15 minutes in the dome.
Grades 3-6      20-30 minutes in the dome.
Grades 7-12    30-45 minutes in the dome.
-Schedule no more than 4-6 classes per day depending on the grade level.
-It can be cool inside the Lab.  You may want to bring a sweater to wear.
- You will be sitting on the ground for most of the day. Bring a pillow or small camp chair for your comfort.
-And finally, YES the dome does fit into the duffle bag!
